On November 1, 2019, in St. Petersburg, IKEA launched a unique project “It will be furniture” – a service for accepting furniture for recycling. This is the first project in the world where previously used furniture becomes new IKEA furniture.
The terms of reference for the development sounded like: a large-scale installation of old chairs, attracting the attention of MEGA visitors to the topic of recycling.
We have developed three options. They can be briefly described as follows:
1. “Tornado” – chairs spin into a tornado of “recycling”.
2. “Poeng” – an image of the iconic chair, one of the most recognizable pieces of IKEA furniture, embodied from parts of old disassembled chairs. “New beautiful life of the old.”
3. “Infinity” – the endless cycle of life of chairs; an old chair, going through a recycling cycle, takes on a new look.
